Masdar City Free Zone or IFZA — which is cheaper with 1 visa in 2026?
| Zone · licence + 1 visa | All-in price |
|---|---|
| Masdar City Free Zone (Abu Dhabi) | AED 17,500 |
| IFZA (Dubai) | AED 17,615 |
Why the AED 115 gap is not the whole story
At one visa the two zones are near-identical — AED 17,500 against AED 17,615 — but they arrive there from opposite directions and diverge again beyond it. Licence-only, Masdar City is far cheaper at AED 7,000 versus IFZA's AED 12,900. At two visas they stay level (AED 23,900 versus AED 24,080), then at three IFZA pulls decisively ahead: AED 30,545 against Masdar's AED 42,750. Full workings are in the 2026 price index.
Who picks which
Masdar City attracts cleantech, energy and mobility founders who value its Abu Dhabi research cluster, plus solo consultants chasing that low licence-only entry point. IFZA is the default for Dubai-facing businesses — management consultants, marketing studios, IT contractors — and for any founder expecting headcount to reach three visas or more.
Two things founders ask
We may hire soon — which zone wins then? Up to two visas, either: the difference is under AED 200. From the third visa onwards IFZA is AED 12,205 cheaper, so planned hiring is the strongest reason to pick Dubai here.
Must my business be sustainability-related to join Masdar? No. Masdar City licenses a wide range of professional and trading activities; the cleantech cluster is an attraction, not an entry condition.
